Midterm Election 2010: Anticipated Results Not Set In Stone…But

On the eve of the midterm elections, the Republicans were on the verge of decimating the significant majorities Democrats have enjoyed in congress for the last few years. Having virtually no say in what the Obama agenda would be, the political landscape looks to be quite different for Republicans after Tuesday. Barack Obama is currently making his way across the country in a desperate attempt to attract Democratic voters to the polls. But with many of his supporters in 2008 now souring on his agenda, the president may not have the clout he had in 2008.

Big Names May Fall

If the polls are any indicator, not only will the Democrats give up a significant number of seats in the house, but they could possibly lose the senate as well. Even if they manage to hold on to the senate, the faces in charge may change. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is locked in a tight race with Sharron Angle in Nevada, with polls showing Reid slowly losing ground. In the house, Nancy Pelosi is more likely to keep her seat, but many Democrats see her as polarizing and may move to replace her as well. If the Democrats lose the house, the point will be moot though.

Governorships On The Line

Voters in 37 states will be casting their votes for governor as well. The race for governor is especially tight in the strategically important state of Ohio, which pits incumbent Democrat Ted Strickland against Republican John Kasich. Republican Marco Rubio leads in Florida, and Democrat Jerry Brown and Republican Meg Whitman are locked in a tight race in California.

If Republicans have the kind of day they expect on Tuesday, Barack Obama will be dealing with a very different congress than he had in his first two years

  1. Americans should give Obama and the democrats the chance to steer them away from the mess Bush and his G O P created. If you all remember, the woes facing the American public had piled up for eight years under the Bush administration, its going to take more than two years to clear it all up. Obama said it during his inauguration that the return to normalcy would take a while. He has done well considering the conditions in which he took over .

    • not true — if the math is right the Dems took over the House and Senate majority in 2006–so how do you answer that

    • We’ve given President Obama 22 months and Congress since 2006 to “steer us away from the mess Bush and his GOP created”…the hole just seems to be getting bigger and bigger to me!

  2. The dems are what got us in this trouble. The Pres doesnt do anything on his own congress pulls all the strings and who has controlled congress over the last 8 years.DEMS. Hows the hoax and chains working out for ya. The curtain has been pulled back to reveal the wizard and the American people dont like what they see. The days of free rides are over. YOU LOSE

  3. Dear GOP (Posted at 10:48am), It is really sad that you have to lie about the Democratic Party running Congress for the past 8 years. The only other option is that you really don’t know and you are one of the ignorant sheep that through hatred and deceipt is voting against his own best interest. It is common knowledge that the Democratic Party only took over in the last few years of the Bush Administration and anything and everything that they tried to do was vetoed. President Obama has done a verry good job and we’re going to go backward by putting corporate interests and people that want to outsource everything, raise our retirement age, stop all checks and balances so that the rich can once and for all put the screws to us for good. The only good thing about it is that in the end, you get screwed with the rest of us. Thanks

    • deeper in dept is a good thing–entitlement goodie bag is a good thing–so when do you stop asking for handouts and start working for yoursself

    • Pray…please tell me what President Obama “has done a verry good job at” because for life of me I’m not seeing it!

  4. Dear GOP, it should also be noted that the GOP does nothing but help the rich and then make alot of noise for the evangelicals at election time. They had all three branches of government from 2000-2006 and not once did they do anything about the borders or the immigration problem. Not once did they do anything to shrink our government or lower the deficit. Not once did they do anything to stop spending like drunken sailors. Not once did they do anything to help the middle class or create any jobs at home. Now all of a sudden it is supposed to be credible that they are going to try to do it when they had a chance for all of those years that the economy went into a serious downturn handing President Obama the worse economy since the Great Depression. Get a grip.

    • Oh are you forgeting about the battle they were faced with when our tours were hit–True the GOP has it problems that is why the TEA party has developed–they are for the conservative working people–and how do you quantify the “rich”

Wasnt the Bush Admin that gave us all–not just the “rich” tax breaks — removed the estate tax, increased all individual’s children tax credit–which by the way will go away in January because the almight one says change is the best for all–

  5. Dear Mike. its not helping the Rich. its giving them the well earn tax break. since its the Rich that pays the most of the taxes, then in turn goes to the poor in welfare. Which I know many MANY people on welfare that is able to work and choose not to, since the Dems will support them by taxing the rich who works every single day to live the american dream!!! Stop supporting the dead beats that feed off the government assitance. point the finger where the real spending goes. that is taking the hard earned rich taxes and supporting the ones who dont want to work at all. there are 2nd and 3rd gen welfare people out there that laughs at us supporting them so they can sit around and do nothing.

  6. Dear Mike sorry if that hurt. sometimes the truth does. just trying to wake you and others up and see the real problems. instead of holding on to blame game. would be nice for everyone to sit down at a table. look at the spending this country does and scale it back. I see a 1.4 pay raise to the military coming. (1.9 was proposed. 1.4 is president wants). and a 2.1% pay raise to the welfare system. WHATS WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE.

    • There is a lot wrong with that picture! I for one believe those that serve in our armed services deserve all we can give them…rather than to those who just want a handout. I believe in a handUP, but not a handout.

  7. Dear Dave,

Well said. A 1.4% pay raise for the military is an insulte. As a young military member in 1982 I was stationed in California. I had to rent an appartment off base due to a lack of housing. At the time I was only an E3 in the Air Force and money was tight. The appartment building I lived in had many residents that were receiving welfare (many by their own choice). I actually had comments made to me about how I was “crazy to work so hard”, because I could actually make more money from the welfare system. Now that some years have passed, the fruits of my labor have paid off, and I make a consederable amount more than I could on the welfare system. The point of my story is to show the mind set of some people. It is a sad state of affairs when the men and women that defend our country receive less of a pay raise than those on welfare. It is also a shame that we have reached a point that many feel that people who have had success in their life (the rich) should be punished for their success.
